AOP & Sony World Photography Awards Press
30/04/2019
Last summer I spent a few days on the shores of Blackpool and Skegness looking for interesting characters to photograph. I wasn't let down. But probably the most interesting image was down to a bit of luck. I saw a chap with binoculars and asked if I could take his photo. Turned out a little crowd was gathering because a swimmer was stranded at sea. The image has been very well received, featuring on every major press website including the Telegraph, BBC and Independent. And delighted to report it was one of just 18 images selected from over 100000 entries for the press coverage of the Sony World Photography Awards.
The image is a finalist at this year's Association of Photographers awards and was used as the headline image in several press releases, including the Guardian.
Very chuffed indeed. I guess I got lucky. But then again, it's a bit more than luck when you turn up with a bag full of gear and a plan for the day...
